The Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) Ltd.

The Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation Ltd. (KSWDC) was incorporated on 22nd February, 1988 under the aegis of the Govt. of Kerala for providing better opportunities to women and their empowerment. KSWDC aims at the all-round development of women and girls to make them active participants in societal development. By encouraging women to be ambitious and confident, KSWDC furnishes them with a reliable support system to help them realize their true potential. KSWDC visualizes a just and equal society, where women enjoy economic independence and social status on par with men. To bring about such a transformation in the status of women in Kerala, KSWDC focuses on promoting activities that recognize the aspirations of young women and strives to promote gender relations based on equity and mutual respect.

Brief History

The aim of KSWDC is the economic and social advancement of women in Kerala. Kerala is a model state of India in terms of Health, Education, Employment, Political Participation and Decision Making but the state is trailing behind the rest of India in gender related matters. Economic dependency was one of the reasons that leave the women with no voice in their households. So in its initial years of operation KSWDC concentrated on providing Financial Support to women entrepreneurs to start up their new ventures for gaining economic independence. In later years KSWDC also took on the responsibility of creating and implementing projects that would facilitate the overall development of women in society. The empowerment of marginalised women through education, training and the creation of vocational opportunities is essential for the sustained growth of the literate women of Kerala.

KSWDC has disbursed 658.57 Crores among fourty two thousand four hundred and sixty nine women beneficiaries so far and many job oriented training and development programs have ended up providing worthy jobs to girls belonging to BPL families. Loan disbursement programmes for encouraging women entrepreneurs, Finishing School to attune young girls with respectful jobs, and Gender Awareness Programmes to reach marginalised women, are some of the activities of the corporation.

The success stories of the many beneficiaries of KSWDC are real life testimonials to the organization’s commitment towards achieving an egalitarian society. KSWDC invests in the holistic development of the women in the State. Our gender awareness programmes, career grooming services, vocational training facilities, all aim at mainstreaming women’s needs and concerns and also equip our population with appropriate attributes to rightly handle the resources and prospects available to them.

Incorporated in 1988 under the Companies Act 1956, Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation Ltd. formulates, promotes and implements projects that aim at raising the status of women to a self-sufficient and self-sustaining level. Govt. of Kerala has entrusted KSWDC to channelize the overall development of women in the state.
